2008 SCC GRANT AWARDEES
The Salem Cultural Council (SCC) has announced the awarding of grants totaling $13,920 to 16 local artists and cultural organizations. The grants were awarded from a pool of funds distributed to Salem by the by the
Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency that supports public programs and educational activities in the arts, sciences and humanities.

The SCC is one of 335 local councils that serve every city and town in the state. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the
Massachusetts Cultural Council, which then allocates funds to each local council. Decisions about which activities to support are made at the community level by the local Salem council.
The members of the Salem Cultural Council are: Gerry Ryan, Co-Chair; Christine Michelini, Co-Chair; Pamela Schmidt, Treasurer; Sara Ashodian; Renee Austin; Derek Barr; Lisa Brooke; Dinah Cardin; Kristine Doll; Stan Franzeen; Mamadou Diop; and Will Pirone. The Salem Cultural Council will seek applications again in the fall of 2008. Information and forms are available online at www.salemculturalcouncil.org or at the Massachusetts Cultural Council web site. Forms will also be available at City Hall and the library and are due Oct. 15, 2008.
